What is the Urantia Book?

The Fifth Epochal Devine Revelation

The Urantia Book is a spiritual and philosophical book that was first published in 1955. It originated in Chicago between 1924 and 1955, with an unknown authorship, claiming to be a revelation from celestial beings.
Key themes and content:
  • Cosmology: It presents a detailed cosmology describing God (the Universal Father), the central and superuniverses, and the beings inhabiting them. Earth is called “Urantia” within this cosmology.
  • The nature of God: The book emphasizes God as a loving Father who relates to each individual personally.
  • The life and teachings of Jesus: A significant portion of the book focuses on a detailed biography of Jesus, including his life before his public ministry, which is not found in the Bible. It presents Jesus as a divine Son of God who came to earth to reveal God’s love and experience human life.
  • Human destiny and spiritual progress: It describes an evolutionary plan for human beings to ascend through the universes and eventually attain a state of divine perfection.
  • The Thought Adjuster: A key concept is the indwelling of a “Thought Adjuster,” a fragment of God’s spirit that guides individuals towards understanding God.

Note: The Urantia Foundation, a non-profit organization established in 1950, is the custodian of the text and promotes its dissemination.
